6 police officers, including a DIG and 3 SPs, permanently dismissed

The government has permanently dismissed six police officers convicted of crimes against humanity, including a deputy inspector general (DIG) and three superintendents of police (SPs).

The home ministry issued six separate gazette notifications on Thursday (24 September), ending their service following their convictions in cases before the International Crimes Tribunal.

All six officers had previously been suspended.

Among those dismissed is Syed Nurul Islam, former deputy inspector general (DIG) of Dhaka Range, who was attached to the Rangpur Range DIG office. International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced him to life imprisonment in a crimes against humanity case.

Former Dhaka district superintendent of police Asaduzzaman, who was attached to the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi, was also dismissed. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in the same case.

Two former additional superintendents of police of Dhaka district — Abdullahil Kafi and Shahidul Islam — were also dismissed after being sentenced to life imprisonment in the same case.

Kafi was serving as Dhaka district additional SP, while Shahidul was attached to the Cox’s Bazar Armed Police Battalion.

Meanwhile, Shah Alam Md Akhtarul Islam, former additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, was dismissed after the International Crimes Tribunal-1 sentenced him to death in a crimes against humanity case.

He was attached to the Sylhet In-Service Training Centre at the time of the dismissal.

In the same case, former DMP assistant commissioner Mohammad Imrul was dismissed after the tribunal sentenced him to six years in prison.
