The government has appointed six administrators to different city corporations under the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
According to a notification issued by the Local Government Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives on 22 February, the appointments will remain effective until elected representatives assume office or until further orders.
The appointed administrators are:
Md Abdul Salam — Dhaka South City Corporation
Md Shafiqul Islam Khan — Dhaka North City Corporation
Najrul Islam Manju — Khulna City Corporation
Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury — Sylhet City Corporation
Md Shwakhat Hossain Khan — Narayanganj City Corporation
Md Showkat Hossain Sarkar — Gazipur City Corporation
The notification states that the administrators will exercise the powers and perform the duties of the mayor as per Section 25(1) of the amended law and will receive remuneration and other benefits in accordance with existing government rules.
Copies of the notification have been sent to the Cabinet Division, Prime Minister’s Office, Election Commission Secretariat, divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and other relevant authorities for necessary action.
