Police in Chattogram have arrested five people in three separate operations, including two alleged associates of Raihan, whom investigators describe as a close associate of recently arrested listed criminal David Emon.

During the raids, officers recovered two foreign-made pistols, a magazine, 11 rounds of ammunition, and two sharp weapons allegedly used in a murder, Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Masud Alam said at a press briefing today (3 August).
According to the SP, investigators identified suspects in the 13 June murder of Jubo Dal leader Maksudul Haque Chowdhury in the city’s Pahartali area through CCTV footage, intelligence inputs, and technological analysis.

Acting on the findings, police arrested Didar Alam, 30, and Afsar Mia, 30, at a checkpoint in Sitakunda yesterday (2 August).
Based on their information, officers later recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, and two rounds of 7.65mm ammunition buried near a septic tank behind a house in Raozan.
Police said Didar faces 13 criminal cases, including murder, arms, and extortion charges, while Afsar has eight cases.
Investigators allege both men acted as shooters in the Maksudul murder and were members of a “killing squad” led by Raihan.
In a separate operation linked to the 10 July killing of Muhammad Nurul Azim over a land dispute in Hathazari, police arrested the main accused, Didarul Alam, in Dhaka’s Keraniganj after tracking his movements across several districts.
Police said Didarul admitted involvement during preliminary questioning, leading to the recovery of a machete and a large cleaver allegedly used in the killing.
Authorities said he has 13 criminal cases and multiple outstanding warrants.
Police also arrested Md Borhan and Md Rony in connection with an attempted murder case in Jorarganj.
A search of Borhan’s workshop led to the recovery of another foreign-made pistol and nine rounds of live ammunition concealed inside a shutter.
SP Masud said police are investigating those who allegedly sheltered David Emon’s associates and tracing the network’s illegal arms and finances.
He added that law enforcement will continue operations against terrorism, extortion, illegal weapons, and organised crime, regardless of the suspects’ political affiliations.
