Three journalists were assaulted while covering a workers’ protest at Padma Mor in Hemayetpur, Savar, this morning (4 November).
A group of protesters allegedly attacked them at around 9:30am while they were reporting on the workers’ movement.
The injured journalists were identified as Ahmad Sohan Siraji, district correspondent for Star News; Raiyan Bin Amin, correspondent for Ekattor TV; and Md Uzzwal Hossain, a cameraman for Ekattor TV.
The journalists said they had gone to Padma Mor in Hemayetpur that morning after receiving reports of a clash between police and workers.
After recording statements from several agitated workers, they moved away to film the incident. A group of masked protesters then recognised them as journalists and attacked them with sticks and bricks, they said.
Several local residents intervened and persuaded the attackers to stop, allowing the journalists to leave the scene.
The three injured journalists subsequently left the area.
