Three members of the South Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) were allegedly assaulted and injured while conducting an operation to arrest an accused person in Araihazar, Narayanganj.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon (18 June) at Shantinagar Bazar in Uchitpura Union of the upazila.
The injured officers were identified as Sub-Inspector (SI) Mamun Matubbar, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Aman Ullah, and Constable Kabir Ahmed.
According to reports, a four-member team from the South Division of the Dhaka DB went to the Gausia area of Rupganj at around 4pm yesterday to apprehend an accused in a criminal case.
During the operation, relatives and associates of the suspect allegedly gathered and attacked the officers.
At one stage, three of the officers were forcibly placed in a pickup van and taken to Shantinagar Bazar in Araihazar, where they were allegedly assaulted again.
Upon receiving information about the incident, local police rushed to the scene, rescued the injured officers, and admitted them to the Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Araihazar Police Station Md Sabjel Hossain, said the injured officers had been rescued and sent to Dhaka for further treatment.
He noted that the officers became targets of public anger as they were not in uniform at the time of the operation.
“The details of the incident will be known after an investigation. The microbus used by the officers is currently in the custody of Araihazar Police Station,” he added.
