At least two people were killed and six others injured after a boundary wall of Mirpur University College collapsed onto people waiting in a queue to buy subsidised products from the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) in the capital’s Mirpur-2 area today (28 July).
The incident took place at around 1:30pm on Love Road behind Mirpur University College.
Confirming the fatalities, Mirpur Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Mostak Sarkar told The Business Standard that one of the deceased was identified as Nasima Begum, a resident of Janata Housing in Mirpur-2.
The identity of the other victim could not be confirmed immediately.
Police said six others sustained injuries in the collapse and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
According to law enforcement officials, the boundary wall suddenly gave way, trapping people standing in the TCB queue beneath the rubble.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse.
Further details about the victims and the condition of the injured were not immediately available, police said.
