A python was rescued from a paddy field in Bagerhat’s Sarankhola upazila and later released into the Sundarbans today (10 May).
The snake was rescued from a paddy field belonging to Elias Matubbar of Sarankhola village around noon, according to the Forest Department.
Officials said the rescued python was around 13 feet long and weighed approximately 25kg.
Eastern Sundarbans Divisional Forest Officer Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said people living near the Sundarbans had become increasingly aware about wildlife conservation.
“With the help of local residents, the snake that entered the locality was rescued and released back into the Sundarbans,” he said.
Locals said they first spotted the snake in the field and informed the Forest Department immediately.
After receiving the information, members of the Forest Department and the WildTeam rescue unit recovered the python from the field and later released it into the Sundarbans.
Alam Howlader, a facilitator of WildTeam, said the snake was rescued after receiving information from local residents.
“After necessary examinations, the python was released into the Sundarbans,” he said.
