Eleven of 23 people detained in Tejgaon over suspected links to militancy have been released into the custody of their families after signing bonds, according to the police.
No case has been filed so far, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Emaul Haque said today (19 September).
The remaining 12, who had been in the custody of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, have been produced before a court under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the OC said.
Police have sought a seven-day remand for questioning, while further interrogation of the detainees is expected to continue, he added.
Earlier, police detained 23 people from a mosque over suspected links to militancy, after they were found holding what authorities described as a secret meeting.
The group was detained around 4:15pm based on intelligence, said Mohammad Ibne Mizan, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon Division.
