The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has finished the testimony of 10 people in a case filed against 36, including former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed, for embezzling and laundering Tk25 crore.
A total of 11 witnesses have been examined in the case so far.
Today (21 April), UCB bank officials presented their evidence in the court of the Chittagong Divisional Special Judge. ACC Public Prosecutor Mokarram Hossain confirmed the matter to The Business Standard. “The court has fixed May 5 for the next hearing”, he added.
Earlier, the trial began on charges of misappropriation and laundering of money against a shell company titled ‘Vision Trading’ as it allegedly took loans from United Commercial Bank (UCB) by violating its rules and regulations and transferring the money illegally across borders.
According to the complaint, between 13 October 2019 and 13 February 2020, a loan of Rs 25 crore was taken and later it was smuggled out of the country through Hundi.
The charges were framed against 36 accused on 11 March. There are a total of 92 witnesses in the case.
