The Zia Memorial Museum will be declared a heritage site soon and necessary renovation work will be undertaken, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said today (20 March).
“The Zia Memorial Museum is an important heritage property for us. It is necessary to preserve and develop it. The infrastructure of the museum will be improved so that future generations can gain a proper understanding of the country’s history,” he made the remarks after visiting the museum located adjacent to the Chattogram Circuit House.
“The memorial, along with various establishments related to the Liberation War, had not received due importance for a long time,” he added.
Khasru further said the museum is associated with the memory of late president Ziaur Rahman and is also closely linked to the history of the Liberation War.
He expressed concern that many important memories of independence are being lost due to long-standing neglect.
Calling on all to come forward to preserve invaluable historical assets, the minister said it is the responsibility of everyone to protect the memories and establishments of the Liberation War so that the new generation can learn the correct history.
