A day-long workshop on Cluster Development Plan (CDP), Capital Investment Plan (CIP) and Climate-Resilient Action Plan was held to formulate a comprehensive development strategy for Kushtia municipality.
The workshop was held at the Kushtia Municipal Auditorium around 9am today (6 April).
Speakers at the workshop said the project aims to expand economic growth by linking municipalities in the south-eastern region with those in the north-western region, strengthening rural-urban economic connections and developing climate-resilient urban management systems.
In the first phase, the project will be implemented in 81 municipalities across 36 districts and six city corporations nationwide. More than 20 million people are expected to benefit from the initiative, with half of the beneficiaries being women.
Under the project, various urban development activities will be carried out, including the improvement of roads and footpaths, installation of streetlights, construction of drainage systems, public toilets, markets and bus terminals, dumping stations, supermarkets, bridges and culverts, and municipal buildings.
All the development activities will be carried out under the World Bank-funded project, which will also place strong emphasis on social and environmental considerations, while ensuring active participation of women in all stages of implementation.
The event was organised by Kushtia municipality under the Resilient Urban and Territorial Development Project (RUTDP), which is being implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) with financial support from the World Bank.
