A woman was killed after a tree fell on her house during a nor’wester storm in Muradnagar Upazila in Cumilla last night (18 March).
The deceased, identified as Shefali Barman, 55, was the wife of Ranjan Chandra Barman from Dari Kandi village under Jahapur Union.
Confirming the incident, Inspector (Investigation) of Muradnagar Police Station, Mohammad Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, said police mobile teams had been working throughout the night.
“We have received information about the woman’s death and will be able to provide further details after verification,” he added.
According to family sources, Shefali Barman had been living alone in a tin-shed house at her parental home following the death of her husband. Her two daughters are married and live separately.
Relatives said that a sudden Kalbaishakhi storm struck the area on Wednesday night. During the storm, a large jackfruit tree located beside her house snapped and collapsed onto the roof while she was having her evening meal.
She was crushed under the debris and died on the spot. Local residents rushed to the scene, removed the fallen tree, and recovered her body.
