A woman died after a brick fell on her head from an under-construction building during Friday evening’s (13 March) rain and storm in Dhaka’s Madhubagh area.
The deceased was identified as Rasheda Begum, 35, a domestic worker who lived in Madhubagh Lane 3. Her husband, Saiful Islam, works as a van driver, and the couple have five children.
Md Faruq, in charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), confirmed the death citing the attending doctor. “The body has been kept at the hospital morgue,” he said.
According to family members, the incident occurred around 8pm when Rasheda was returning home from work. Rain and hail had begun in the area, and while she was passing by an under-construction building near her house, brick from a wall suddenly collapsed and struck her on the head.
She fell to the ground immediately after being hit.
Locals rescued her and first took her to Kurmitola General Hospital. As her condition worsened, she was later transferred to DMCH, where doctors declared her dead around 10pm.
Further details regarding the under-construction building and any possible safety lapses were not immediately known.
