In the race to replace Mikie Sherrill, who vacated this seat to become governor, Analilia Mejia won a closely contested Democratic primary. During the race, a group connected to AIPAC spent heavily against Mejia’s opponent, Tom Malinowski. Joe Hathaway, meanwhile, was unopposed in the Republican primary. Whoever wins this special election will have to turn around and begin campaigning for the regular primaries in the state, which will be held on June 2.
