The government has made weekly reporting on overseas employment activities mandatory, as part of efforts to strengthen monitoring and expand access to foreign labour markets, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment minister Ariful Haque Choudhury said today (4 March).
The directive came during the first meeting of a committee formed to boost overseas employment and safeguard expatriate welfare, held at the ministry’s conference room in Dhaka, according to a press release.
Chairing the meeting, the minister instructed officials to submit weekly updated reports detailing recruitment progress and initiatives to explore new labour destinations. He said reporting must be regular, detailed and performance-based.
“There must be consistency and accountability in tracking our progress. No negligence will be tolerated,” he said, stressing proactive engagement with both emerging and existing labour markets.
The minister reiterated that expanding overseas employment remains a government priority, with emphasis on safe migration, protection of workers’ rights, better wages and skills development aligned with international demand.
He also directed officials to intensify labour market research, assess country-specific opportunities and strengthen training programmes.
The initiative forms part of the government’s election pledge to create overseas employment opportunities for 10 million Bangladeshis over the next five years.
Senior ministry officials and committee members attended the meeting. The ministry will review the weekly submissions to monitor progress and ensure accountability.
