US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen today (22 January) met National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman at his office in Dhaka to discuss key issues in Bangladesh-US relations, including immigration, visa bonds, the return of undocumented Bangladeshis from the US, trade, and regional matters.
Khalilur Rahman welcomed Ambassador Christensen as the new envoy, recalling his previous contributions to strengthening bilateral ties during his earlier posting in Dhaka and his roles in the US government in Washington DC.
He expressed hope that relations between the two countries would reach new heights during Christensen’s current tenure.
The hour-long meeting covered a wide range of topics, including the reciprocal tariff agreement, support for Rohingya refugees, American investment and business in Bangladesh, and other regional issues of mutual concern.
Ambassador Christensen reiterated the US’s strong support for Bangladesh’s democratic transition and praised the interim government’s preparations for the upcoming elections and ongoing reforms.
