An organiser of the United People’s Democratic Front (Democratic faction) has been killed in a three-way clash over dominance in Panchhari upazila of Khagrachhari.
The incident occurred around 8:30am today (27 March) in Sutakarma Para, where unidentified assailants opened fire targeting Nitidatta Chakma.
He was rescued in an injured condition by fellow activists and locals and taken to Khagrachhari Modern District Sadar Hospital, where emergency department physician Dr Joya Tripura declared him dead on arrival.
Panchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Ferdous Wahid told The Business Standard, “The body is currently at the Sadar hospital. It will be handed over to the family after legal procedures. If a case is filed, necessary action will be taken following an investigation.”
The president of UPDF (Democratic), Samiran Chakma (Charming), did not issue an immediate reaction. However, the organisation said a statement would be provided later through a press release.
Notably, frequent three-way gunfights have been reported in Panchhari involving UPDF (Prasit faction), UPDF (Democratic), and the JSS (Santu group) over control and influence in the area.
