Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury will visit Malaysia on 8 April to discuss reopening of the labour market.
The minister said he received an invitation from the Malaysian ministry. Discussions will take place there, and the outcome will be shared with everyone. Efforts will be made to reopen the labour market quickly.
He made the remarks at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today (6 April) after receiving the body of Bangladeshi worker Abdullah Al Mamun, who was killed in a missile attack in Saudi Arabia.
Ariful said the ministry does not deal with any syndicate and always tries to remain open to all.
He also stated that, due to the war in the Middle East, seven Bangladeshi workers have died so far. Four bodies have been received in Bangladesh, and one was buried in Saudi Arabia with family consent.
The minister added that the Wages Earners’ Welfare Board has provided Tk35,000 for funeral expenses and Tk50,000 in cash to the families of the deceased.
