A Dhaka court has barred three individuals, including former additional commissioner of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Sadhan Kumar Kundu, from leaving the country as investigations by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) remain underway.
The order was issued by the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz today (11 March) following two separate petitions filed by the ACC.
The other two placed under the travel restriction are Farhad Hossain, former principal of Monipur High School and College, and his wife Anjuman Ara Khatun.
Riaz Hossain, bench assistant of the court concerned, confirmed the matter.
ACC Assistant Director Md Anwar Hossain filed the petition seeking the travel ban on Sadhan Kumar Kundu.
According to the petition, allegations against Kundu involve the acquisition of assets beyond known sources of income, and verification of his asset statement is currently under investigation.
The ACC told the court that reliable sources suggested Kundu may attempt to transfer illegally acquired assets and flee abroad.
If he leaves the country, the investigation could be delayed or obstructed. The travel restriction was therefore sought to ensure an effective and fair inquiry.
In a separate petition, ACC Assistant Director Md Saidul Islam sought a travel ban on Farhad Hossain.
The petition stated that allegations are under investigation against Farhad Hossain, office assistant Md Humayun Kabir and others over the alleged embezzlement of around Tk200 crore from development projects of Monipur High School and College, as well as the accumulation of illegal wealth and evasion of government revenue.
The ACC also informed the court that there were credible indications that Farhad and his wife might attempt to leave the country as well, which could disrupt the ongoing investigation.
