The body of a teenage girl with her throat slit was recovered in Bagerhat’s Sarankhola upazila this (24 March) morning, police said.
The victim, identified as Riya Moni, 15, was found lying on a road in Rajoir village.
Police later recovered the body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge of Sarankhola Police Station Md Saminul Islam said an investigation is underway to identify those involved in the killing and efforts are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators.
Police said Riya Moni had been living with her maternal grandmother, Halima Khatun, in the village. She was the daughter of Azim Sheikh, while her parents have long been residing in Brahmanbaria.
Locals alleged that she had been used by drug traffickers to sell yaba and marijuana and had developed an addiction over time.
Khalil Munshi, imam of a local mosque, said devotees noticed the body while heading for Fajr prayers and informed the police.
