Tight security measures have been put in place at the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, ahead of a scheduled visit by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Party sources said this will be the first time Tarique Rahman, also the party’s chairman, is visiting the party’s central office since assuming office as prime minister.
Security has been strengthened in and around the office area since this morning (28 March). Additional CCTV cameras have been installed to ensure the prime minister’s security, while barricades have been set up around the main entrance of the office.
Members of law enforcement personnel have also taken positions in the area since early morning.
Traffic movement on the VIP road in Nayapaltan has also been restricted ahead of the visit.
Meanwhile, leaders and activists of the BNP and its associate bodies started gathering in front of the office from the morning. Party workers were seen waiting eagerly to welcome their leader and hoping to meet him.
The area has turned vibrant with small processions and slogans by the activists.
Yesterday, the party’s media cell said all preparations for the visit had been completed under the supervision of party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, who is also a political adviser to the prime minister.
After returning to the country on 29 December following nearly two decades abroad, Tarique Rahman had visited the party’s central office. A large number of leaders and activists had gathered there on that occasion as well.
