Leader of the Opposition Shafiqur Rahman met with Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman at the latter’s parliament office today (30 March).
The meeting took place around 12pm following the namaz-e-janaza of Professor Dilara Hafiz, the late wife of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, at the South Plaza of the parliament complex.
As the two leaders walked toward the parliament building after the prayers, the opposition leader expressed an interest in speaking with the prime minister, who immediately invited Shafiqur, also the chief of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, to his office.
After the discussion, Tarique escorted Shafiqur a short distance toward his office, a gesture of etiquette that drew praise from those present.
LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was also present during the meeting.
Atiqur Rahman Rumon, additional press secretary to the prime minister, described the meeting as brief, lasting approximately 20 minutes. He, however, did not share details of the issues discussed by the two leaders.
“The prime minister extends proper respect and courtesy to everyone. Citizens have noted such gestures both before the national elections and since the BNP took office,” Atiqur said.
