Following the formal end of campaigning for the national election, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman was stationed at his Gulshan office today (10 February), communicating with leaders and candidates nationwide to monitor the situation, gathering reports from constituencies, and speaking with foreign journalists.
He is also overseeing party organisational work from the office.
Speaking at a press briefing this afternoon, BNP Media Cell member Atikur Rahman Ruman said, “From early morning, the chairman has been in touch with candidates nationwide. He has also called and spoken with party workers to understand the overall environment and ensure smooth preparations.”
Tarique will cast his vote at Gulshan Model High School and College in Dhaka-17. BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the voting centre for the chairman.
In this election, BNP’s electoral symbol, the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’, is contesting 291 seats, while the party has reached seat-sharing arrangements with like-minded parties in nine constituencies.
Tarique conducted continuous electioneering that began on 22 January from Alia Madrasah in Sylhet.
He later addressed election rallies in Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi, Narayanganj’s Mouchak, Chattogram, Feni, Cumilla’s Chauddagram, Sonagazi, Daudkandi, Narayanganj’s Sonargaon, Mymensingh, Gazipur, Uttara in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Naogaon, Bogura, Rangpur, Sirajganj, Tangail, Barishal, Faridpur, Thakurgaon, Nilphamari and Dinajpur, as well as 14 constituencies in Dhaka.
Overall, Tarique Rahman addressed 41 public rallies across Dhaka and other parts of the country over nine days.
He formally wrapped up his election campaign by visiting the graves of his parents at around 11pm yesterday.
