Supporting underprivileged people during the holy month of Ramadan is a moral and social responsibility for everyone, said Syed Humayun Kabir, president of World Cancer Society Bangladesh.
He made the remarks while attending an iftar mahfil with orphaned and disadvantaged children in the capital today (14 March).
He said, “Ramadan is a month of self-purification, compassion, and humanity. Standing beside helpless and disadvantaged people during this sacred time is our moral and social responsibility.”
“If capable and socially conscious individuals step forward, the suffering of the underprivileged can be significantly alleviated,” he added.
He also urged people to continue supporting disadvantaged communities throughout the year as part of their humanitarian duty.
The organisers also distributed Prayer mats, caps and attar among the children attending the gathering.
Among the special included Chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Halida Hanum Akhter, acting Executive Director of Bangladesh Scouts Shamsul Haque, National President of Apex Bangladesh M Sayeem Tipu, Regional Director of Bangladesh Scouts Rail, Sea and Air Region Muhammad Abu Saleh, former additional secretary Hakim Mazumdar, chief coordinator of the Bangladesh Breast Cancer Awareness Forum Habibullah Talukder Ruskin, and Joint Executive Director of Bangladesh Scouts Md. Ruhul Amin.
The guests praised the initiative of World Cancer Society Bangladesh and thanked the organisation for standing beside orphaned and underprivileged children during Ramadan.
They also called on affluent and socially aware members of society to participate in similar humanitarian activities.
