Ishraque Hossain, state minister for the Liberation War Affairs Ministry, has announced a tough stance against hoarders and market syndicates ahead of the upcoming Ramadan, declaring what he termed a “war” against those responsible for creating artificial shortages and price manipulation.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page today (18 February), the minister said strict action would be taken against those involved in creating artificial supply crises and raising prices of essential commodities, including food items and edible oil, during the holy month.
He also issued a stern warning to major importers, suppliers, and wholesale traders, naming leading conglomerates such as Bashundhara Group, Fresh, City Group, TK Group, Nabil Group and ACI Limited.
According to the state minister, the drive against market manipulation will begin in his own parliamentary constituency and may later be expanded across Bangladesh if necessary.
He stressed that those involved in hoarding or price manipulation would not be able to escape accountability through political or administrative influence.
No big political leader, minister or government official will be able to shield anyone, he said, adding, “I am declaring war against all mafias.”
The minister further warned that if low-income people fail to access food at fair prices during Ramadan, strict action would be taken against those responsible.
Reaffirming his commitment, Ishraque said he remains determined to ensure food security and fair market conditions for ordinary citizens.
