Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have seized smuggled Indian goods worth approximately Tk9.38 crore from the Bijoynagar border area in Brahmanbaria.
A raid was carried out last night (19 March) in the border area in Kamalmora village in Bijoynagar, where members of BGB Battalion-25 recovered the items buried underground, Commanding Officer Lt Col Jabbar Ahmed disclosed during a press briefing today (20 March).
According to BGB officials, acting on intelligence, a team from the Mukundapur Border Outpost (BOP) conducted a special operation in the area. During the drive, they discovered a large tranche of smuggled goods hidden beneath the soil inside a forested patch.
The recovered items include 9,600 pieces of smartphone displays, 13,628 pairs of sunglasses, and 343 sarees, all of Indian origin. However, no arrests were made in connection with the incident.
Lt Col Jabbar Ahmed said the smugglers are continuously changing their tactics, often hiding goods underground to evade law enforcement. Despite this, enhanced intelligence surveillance has enabled BGB to regularly intercept illegal consignments.
He added that BGB remains on high alert to prevent the influx of any such unauthorised products through the border.
