Shwapno, a leading retail chain, has pledged to support the higher education of Omar, an academically gifted student from Kushtia who excelled in university admission tests despite facing acute financial hardship.
Despite his outstanding academic performance, Omar lacked the financial means to enrol at university. Shwapno has therefore committed to covering all his educational expenses, enabling him to pursue his aspirations.
In the 2025–26 academic session, Omar ranked 90th nationwide in the cluster university admission test. He also earned admission offers by placing 251st in Jahangirnagar University’s entrance exam and 743rd in Rajshahi University’s.
To support his studies amidst financial hardship, Omar worked as a labourer.
Omar’s family has long faced adversity. His father passed away from kidney disease when Omar was in Class Two, after which his mother began working in others’ homes to sustain the family.
Undeterred by these challenges, Omar achieved a GPA-5 in the SSC examination in 2023 at GD Shamsuddin Ahmed Collegiate School (business studies group), and later secured a GPA of 4.92 in the 2025 HSC examination.
He prepared for university entrance with free support from a teacher at a Kushtia coaching centre, which proved instrumental to his success.
Omar said: “My education has only continued through the support of my school, college and coaching teachers. My family cannot afford to buy me even a book or notebook. Shwapno’s support has lifted a long-standing worry for me and my mother. I can now pursue my studies without anxiety.”
Shwapno, which has long engaged in social responsibility initiatives nationwide, stated that sustained, targeted support can bring lasting change to the lives of talented individuals.
The company added that its support for underprivileged, high-achieving students would continue, recognising their potential and striving to improve their quality of life.
Omar’s achievement serves as an inspiration to thousands of underprivileged students in Bangladesh. Shwapno’s initiative aims to help turn such inspiration into reality.
