Shakira opened up about the hardships she faced after her breakup from former soccer star Gerard Pique.
The Waka Waka hitmaker confessed that her split from the athlete was “the darkest moment” in her life as it led to “the dissolution of [their] family,” in an interview with The Times of London.
However, Shakira has nothing but well wishes for the father of her kids.
She told the outlet, “I will always have that gratitude in my heart for the father of my kids and [for] turning me into the mother that I am today.”
It is pertinent to mention that Shakira shares two sons, Milan and Sasha, with former partner Gerard Piqué, whom she dated from 2010 to 2022.
Opening up about the emotional aftermath of her breakup, the 49-year-old Grammy-winning singer detailed, “I saw the dissolution of my family, the family that I had dreamt to keep forever. I’ve been through so much pain, but it has made me perhaps in an unforeseen way a wiser person — or stronger, at least.”
The mom of two noted that the hard time made her “stronger.”
Shakira explained, “They say that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and it is true. It’s amazing to learn that humans have a resilience that we can resort to at any moment in our lives.
The Whenever, Wherever artist further shared how the hard time changed her perspective on life.
”Sometimes through hardships and through pain is how we discover how strong we can be. Suffering sometimes makes you a better person, makes you value friends and support,” she added.
Shakira is currently not dating anyone as she told the outlet that her “plate is quite full.”
“Oh no, no romance for me for now,” Shakira insisted, adding, “There’s no space or time in my life for that… My kids are my priority, and my career. Strangely enough, I’m in love with my career like I’ve never been in my life. I’m enjoying my time alone as well.”
For those unversed, Shakira briefly dated Jimmy Butler and Lucien Laviscount after her split from Piqué.
