Cricketer and former Awami League lawmaker Shakib Al Hasan has said his current focus remains entirely on cricket, seeking to clarify recent discussions sparked by his remarks in the media.
In a Facebook post today (6 April), the Bangladesh national team all-rounder said he aims to give his best performance for the country in the final phase of his cricketing career.
“Right now, my entire focus is only on cricket. At this stage of my career, I want to give my all for the Bangladesh national team and, if given the opportunity, deliver some memorable performances,” he wrote.
Shakib acknowledged the importance of politics in a country’s development, but said contributing to national progress is not limited to political involvement.
“After ending my cricket career, I want to contribute to the development of my country. However, that does not necessarily have to be through politics alone. It is possible to serve the country in other ways as well, although it may be easier through politics,” he added.
He also expressed hope of ending his international career on a positive note.
“I hope I can finish my cricket career wearing the red and green jersey with a smile,” he said, seeking prayers and support from the people of Bangladesh.
