Two ships of the Russian Navy arrived at Chattogram Port yesterday (24 March) for a four-day goodwill visit, marking a renewed phase of naval engagement between Bangladesh and Russia.
The vessels, Rezkiy and Sovershenny, were received on arrival by the chief staff officer of the commander of Chattogram Naval Area.
Senior officials of the Bangladesh Navy, along with the Russian deputy head of mission and defence attaches posted in Bangladesh, were present during the reception, according to a press release.
Earlier, as the ships entered Bangladesh’s maritime boundary, they were formally welcomed by BNS Omar Faruk of the Bangladesh Navy.
During the visit, commanding officers of the visiting ships, accompanied by the Russian deputy head of mission, are scheduled to pay courtesy calls on the commander of Chattogram Naval Area, the area superintendent of the Dockyard, and the chairman of Chattogram Port Authority.
As part of the itinerary, Russian naval personnel will visit the Bangladesh Naval Academy, where they will lay a wreath at Redkin Point, the memorial of Russian sailor Yu V Redkin.
They are also expected to tour naval training establishments and ships, alongside key historical and tourist sites in Chattogram.
In parallel, Bangladesh Navy officers and sailors will visit the Russian ships.
Officials say the visit is expected to facilitate professional exchanges and deepen operational understanding between the two navies.
It also reflects broader bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Russia.
The visiting ships are scheduled to leave Bangladesh waters on 27 March.
