A temporary technical issue involving a runway centre line light caused a brief disruption at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this evening (4 April).
According to airport sources, the runway was closed around 7:40pm after a light fixture became dislodged from its casing in the middle of the runway. An aircraft that had just landed is believed to have struck an object, prompting an immediate inspection.
As a precaution, both arriving and departing flights were placed on short holding while air traffic control assessed the situation. Sources said the issue was expected to be resolved within 15 minutes.
Airport authorities, however, described the incident as minor and quickly contained.
“It was nothing serious. A runway light malfunctioned and remained non-operational for about seven minutes. The issue has been fixed,” an official told The Business Standard.
The authority further claimed that no flights were significantly affected during the brief disruption, and normal operations resumed shortly afterwards.
