Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today (12 March) said the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will be able to supply its full 1,200 megawatts of electricity to the national grid by December this year.
“Fuel loading at the plant will begin on 7 April. Trial power generation is expected to start between June and July, and electricity produced during the testing phase will also be supplied to the national grid,” he told journalist after a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Khozin at the Planning Commission in Dhaka.
According to officials concerned, the plant will not operate at full capacity during the trial phase. As a result, different amounts of electricity will be supplied to the grid at different times before reaching the full 1,200MW capacity in December.
