Bangladesh recorded its highest-ever monthly remittance inflow in March, with expatriates sending $3.75 billion despite ongoing unrest across parts of the Middle East.
The data was published today (1 April) by Bangladesh Bank, which said the March figure surpassed all previous monthly records.
According to the central bank, expatriate Bangladeshis sent $3.75 billion during the month, exceeding the previous record of $3.29 billion set in March 2025. December last year also saw one of the highest inflows, with remittances reaching $3.22 billion.
Remittance inflows have continued to rise since the fall of the previous Awami League government in August 2024, and the trend has remained strong in recent months.
Bangladesh Bank officials attributed the record inflow to stricter measures to prevent money laundering and curb illegal money transfers.
Several initiatives have also been taken to stop fund diversion under the guise of loans, while a decline in informal channels such as hundi has helped increase remittance through formal banking channels.
