Police have recovered the body of an unidentified woman from the Shahjadpur area of the capital’s Progoti Sarani, with initial indications suggesting she may have died in a road accident.
The body was found on the road opposite Suvastu Nazar Valley Market in Shahjadpur at around 4:30am today (23 March). Later, after the inquest report, the body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
According to police, the woman was around 50 years old. She was wearing a white and green printed sari and a red blouse. Officers believe she may have been a homeless person.
Confirming the information, Md Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station, said the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and Criminal Investigation Department collected her fingerprints in an attempt to identify her, but no match was found in their records.
He added that it is suspected the victim died after being hit by a vehicle early in the morning. Efforts are underway to collect CCTV footage from the area to confirm the matter.
If the woman remains unidentified after the post-mortem, the body will be handed over to Anjuman Mufidul Islam for burial, OC Hafizur said.
Police also plan to file a case under the Road Transport Act, with officers acting as the complainant in the case.
