State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam today (16 March) said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been “making history” through a series of initiatives since assuming office.
She made the remarks while inaugurating a canal excavation programme from Bolerbag to Sonakhola in Manikdha union of Bhanga upazila, Faridpur, as part of a nationwide drive to excavate and re-excavate rivers, canals and water bodies.
Shama Obaed said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to its election manifesto and its 180-day action plan after forming the government.
She said that in the same way, the proclaimer of independence and former president Ziaur Rahman, after assuming power, first launched a canal excavation programme thinking about farmers and people across Bangladesh. He had also prioritised canal excavation to support agriculture and maintain river flow for the country’s development.
Highlighting recent government measures, Shama said agricultural loans of Tk10,000 for farmers have been waived with interest, family cards introduced for women, and allowances launched for Islamic scholars and others during Ramadan. She added that the government also plans to introduce a “Farmer Card” for farmers after Ramadan.
“This proves that BNP fulfils what it promises, and the initiatives launched over the past week are major evidence of that. She added that BNP will continue to serve the people in this way and does not discriminate based on who voted for the party,” she said.
