Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today (21 March) exchanged Eid-ul-Fitr greetings with diplomats, dignitaries and people from all walks of life at the state guest house Jamuna.
The programme began at 10am, when he first greeted foreign diplomats stationed in Dhaka.
He later exchanged greetings with politicians, eminent citizens and people belonging to different sections of society.
The programme continued until around 11:30am.
He also exchanged greetings with former chief adviser Muhammad Yunus.
Earlier in the morning, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Tarique offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the main congregation at the National Eidgah.
The prayers, led by Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Khatib Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, were held at around 8:34am.
Cabinet members, lawmakers, senior political leaders, high-ranking civil and military officials, and people from different walks of life joined the congregation.
The Eid prayers were organised by the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), with separate arrangements for women at the venue.
Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals for Muslims, is being celebrated across the country today.
This marks Tarique’s first Eid in Bangladesh in 18 years, after spending 17 years in London.
Earlier, the prime minister expressed hope that the joy of Eid would reach every home and called on people to share the happiness of the festival with one another.
