A clash broke out between two groups in Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj last night (4 March) over a long-standing dispute related to sand dredging, during which attackers allegedly cut off electricity and detonated crude bombs, leaving several houses vandalised.
The incident occurred around 11:30pm in Abdullahpur union under Tongibari upazila. According to local sources, tensions had been simmering for some time between residents of Pulindarpaar and neighbouring Bindusar areas over sand dredger operations.
Munshiganj Superintendent of Police Md Menhajul Alam said police and army personnel rushed to the scene upon receiving information and brought the situation under control.
“The situation is now normal, and additional patrols have been deployed in the area. Efforts are underway to identify those involved and take legal action,” he said.
Witnesses said that during the clash, miscreants allegedly disconnected the electricity supply in a planned manner and carried out attacks on several houses using torchlights under the cover of darkness.
Locals said several crude bombs were reportedly detonated to create fear among residents.
No casualties were immediately reported.
