Jamaat-led 11-party alliance candidate Nasiruddin Patwary was leading BNP’s Mirza Abbas at a polling centre in Dhaka-8, according to results available by this evening (12 February).
At the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) polling centre, Patwary bagged 328 votes while BNP-nominated candidate and party’s Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas secured 183 votes as of 6:14pm.
The Dhaka-8 constituency has drawn significant attention in the election, with Abbas facing off against Patwary, the chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP).
Polling began at 7:30am and concluded at 4:30pm.
According to the Election Commission, voting was held at 36,031 centres out of 42,651 nationwide. Voter turnout reached 47.91% by 2pm.
Counting is underway in centres across the country following the end of voting.
