Ministries answer queries; House takes up urgent notices

The first session of the current parliament resumed at 3pm today (29 March) after a 13-day Eid-ul-Fitr recess.
The sitting began at the parliament chamber, presided over by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal.
Today’s session includes a question-and-answer session involving the Local Government Division, Rural Development and Cooperatives Division, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Election Commission Secretariat and the President’s Office.
The House is also set to take up notices submitted under Rule 71 on matters of urgent public importance, along with discussion on the motion of thanks on the president’s address.
The first session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad began on 12 March. Later, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed adjourned the session on 15 March until 29 March due to Eid-ul-Fitr and other public holidays after only two sittings.
Earlier in the day, opposition lawmakers held a meeting at 11am at the opposition conference room in the parliament complex, chaired by Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.
Meanwhile, the ruling party’s parliamentary meeting began at 1:30pm ahead of the sitting, attended by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
A meeting of a special committee of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad is scheduled to be held at 8:30pm today at the cabinet room of the parliament secretariat.
