Parliament today (10 April) passed the July Mass Uprising (Protection and Liability Determination) Bill 2026, aimed at ensuring support for families of those killed and injured in the July Uprising 2024.
The bill was adopted during the 13th sitting of the first session of parliament after Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan placed it before the House.
According to the provisions, the law seeks to ensure the welfare and rehabilitation of families of those killed and injured in the July Uprising.
The law also aims to establish the spirit and ideals of the movement in state and national life and preserve its historical significance.
The legislation originated from an ordinance issued under the interim government led by former chief adviser Muhammad Yunus.
A gazette notification regarding the ordinance was published on 17 January 2025, which has now been formalised into law through parliamentary approval.
