The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a key suspect over an attack in Chattogram’s Kotwali area that left a Jubo Dal activist with his wrist severed.
The arrestee, identified as Sabuj, is the second accused named in the case. Acting on a tip-off, RAB-7 conducted a drive in the Imampara area under Kasba Police Station in Brahmanbaria and arrested him last night (9 April), the elite force said in a press release.
The victim, Md Minhaz, a resident of Chattogram, works at a clothing shop. Around 11am on 6 April, he was travelling by rickshaw to his workplace at Johurul Hawkers Market under Kotwali Police Station’s jurisdiction when he came under attack near the western bank of Boluar Dighi in Korbaniganj.
According to RAB, a group of assailants attacked him over prior enmity and hacked him indiscriminately with sharp weapons, leaving severe injuries to his hands, legs, face and other parts of the body. At one stage, the attackers severed his right wrist.
Locals rescued Minhaz in a critical condition and took him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, from where doctors referred him to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Following the attack, the victim’s sister filed a case with Kotwali Police Station, naming three accused and 3-4 others unidentified.
RAB said efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects. The detained accused has been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action.
