Noah Schnapp, who publicly came out as gay back in January 2023, recently sparked curiosity after posting about a “one-month anniversary” with an unknown man on Instagram.
Only after teasing his fans did he make the big revelation that it was actually an April Fools’ joke.
He had first shared a photo of the two with their arms around each other, captioned “one month of us.” Right the next day, he cleared things up with a simple “April fools” on his story on Instagram.
Beyond the prank, Noah has been open about how playing Will Byers, who is also a gay character, helped him better understand himself. He said seeing how audiences embraced that character made him feel comfortable with himself, not just se*ually but also as a person.
The 21-year-old admitted he often felt like the “weird kid on the side” growing up, but that experience and playing Will, helped him accept and embrace himself and learn that it’s okay to be different.
He told Variety previously that when he eventually came out to friends and family after 18 years of being closeted, their reaction was simple and hilarious: “We know.”
Then, after publicly coming out on TikTok, he was overwhelmed by support as he received “a thousand texts of hearts and congratulations and rainbow flags”.
“I was crying. I was like, ‘I made it. I’m done. I don’t have to worry,’” the Stranger Things star revealed at that time.
