DMP acting commissioner Md Sarwar has said there are no security concerns regarding Eid-ul-Fitr prayers in the capital, assuring that comprehensive measures have been put in place.
“Sufficient security arrangements have been made for the occasion,” he said while briefing reporters this morning (19 March) after inspecting preparations at the National Eidgah ground.
He noted that a coordinated and well-organised security system has been implemented across key prayer venues, including the National Eidgah, Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, and other locations throughout Dhaka.
Although no specific threats have been identified, Sarwar said intelligence agencies are actively monitoring the situation and will alert police if any issues arise.
“We are fully prepared to ensure uninterrupted security,” he added.
Detailing the measures at the National Eidgah, the acting commissioner said multiple layers of security will be in place.
These include archways and metal detectors at entry points, along with CCTV surveillance covering the entire ground and surrounding areas.
Barricades will be set up on key access roads to restrict vehicle movement. Archways and metal detectors will also be installed at these points.
Sarwar further said, “Police patrols will remain active around the venue, and worshippers will be required to enter through designated gates. Separate entry points and security arrangements will be in place for women.”
In addition, sweeping teams from DMP’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit and Special Branch will conduct thorough checks of the area, he added.
A bomb disposal unit will remain on standby, while specialised security cordons will be maintained by SWAT, plainclothes DB officers, and CTTC personnel, he said.
Sarwar further said DMP will coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to ensure overall security.
