Education Minister Ehsanul Haque Milon has asked authorities concerned to integrate activities of the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps (BNCC) into the government’s announced 180-day priority programme.
A proposal to this end was discussed at a meeting today (30 March) at the Ministry of Education.
Education Minister Ehsanul and BNCC officials highlighted various aspects of expanding BNCC activities to transform youth into skilled human resources.
During the meeting, the minister explored the possibility of aligning BNCC programmes within the government’s short-term action plan.
He also instructed authorities to implement the BNCC activities on a pilot basis in several upazilas.
According to sources, the pilot project outcomes will be reviewed before expanding the programme nationwide.
Issues related to improving the BNCC’s training structure, strengthening infrastructure capacity and enhancing institution-based activities were also discussed.
The BNCC representatives presented proposals on expanding operations at the upazila level, increasing manpower and addressing training costs.
Milon said, “The BNCC can play an effective role in developing discipline, leadership and moral values among students, describing it as an important platform for building skilled and responsible citizens.”
The meeting also emphasised the need to strengthen the BNCC’s role in addressing challenges such as student dropout, drug abuse, and lack of interest in studies.
Participants noted that expanding the BNCC activities using existing educational infrastructure could be achieved at a relatively low cost, facilitating quick implementation.
Officials believe that including the BNCC in the 180-day programme could provide new momentum to youth development and efforts to build a skilled workforce in the country.
