Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today (12 March) said his politics is centred on protecting the country and its people, emphasising that the welfare of every family lies at the heart of the government’s agenda.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the new parliament, the prime minister said he represents the people of the country regardless of party affiliation, stressing that the goal of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is to make every family self-reliant.
“Building a self-reliant Bangladesh should not be a matter of disagreement. I believe differences in ideology or work plans within our party should not create conflict when it comes to building a welfare-oriented Bangladesh,” he said during his welcome speech.

Meanwhile, the first session of the new parliament began with the chair of the speaker vacant, as both the speaker and the deputy speaker are being appointed at the time of filing this report.
