Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman on his assumption as the prime minister of Bangladesh.
In a personal letter handed over by India’s Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today (17 February), Modi conveyed his wishes to Tarique and invited him to visit India at his “earliest convenience”.
Earlier on 13 February, Modi congratulated Tarique Rahman on his party’s decisive victory in Bangladesh’s parliamentary elections.
In a Facebook post, Modi extended his “warm congratulations” to Tarique, saying the outcome reflected the trust of the people of Bangladesh in his leadership.
He affirmed that India would continue to stand in support of a “democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh”.
Earlier today, Tarique Rahman took oath as the 11th prime minister of Bangladesh.
On behalf of India, OM Birla attended the ceremony along with foreign delegates and ambassadors from other nations.
