Measles infections are rising in Faridpur, with a total of 14 children currently undergoing treatment at different hospitals.
Among them, eight children are admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, while six others are receiving treatment at Faridpur General Hospital, confirmed Civil Surgeon Dr Mahmudul Hasan.
The children have been admitted since 20 March (after Eid). No deaths have been reported so far.
“The outbreak has begun in our district. An isolation unit has been opened at Faridpur General Hospital, where infected children are being treated. An isolation unit is also planned at Faridpur Medical College Hospital,” said Civil Surgeon Dr Mahmudul Hasan.
He added that samples from the infected children have been collected and sent to Dhaka for testing, and they are being treated with utmost care.
Hospital sources said most of the children undergoing treatment are now out of danger.
Measles is a viral disease that can lead to complications if not treated properly. However, it is preventable through vaccination.
Children are more commonly affected, although adults can also contract the disease. Once infected, individuals are unlikely to contract measles again, but caution is necessary as it is highly contagious.
