A man was hacked to death in Faridpur last night (2 March), allegedly over a dispute linked to illegal drug trade.
The deceased was identified as Raju Sheikh, 30, son of Lavlu Sheikh, a resident of the slum area adjacent to the No. 2 Kuthibari morgue in the city.
Confirming the matter, Faridpur Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Mohammad Abdullah said the body has been sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
According to police, several individuals took Raju from his home around 10pm and attacked him with sharp weapons near the house, leaving him critically injured.
Later, a neighbouring woman noticed him lying on the ground and screamed. Subsequently, locals rushed to the spot, rescued him and took him to Faridpur General Hospital.
As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Raju’s wife, Nishi, alleged that the killing stemmed from hostility over the local drug trade. She claimed that her husband had opposed the illegal drug business run by a woman known locally as “Shilpi”, who she described as a top drug dealer in the slum area.
She said there had been a prior dispute between her husband and Shilpi, which may have led to the killing.
However, no formal case had been filed at the time of reporting, and no arrests had yet been made, according to police.
