Rescue operations following a deadly fire at a gas lighter factory in Keraniganj were officially concluded this evening (5 April), 29 hours after the blaze broke out.
The Fire Service and Civil Defence declared the end of the operation at 6pm, confirmed media officer Talha Bin Jasim.
The fire erupted around 1:11pm yesterday at a factory near the Kadamtali intersection area.
The first firefighting unit reached the scene within five minutes and began efforts to contain the blaze. However, due to the intensity of the fire, six additional units were deployed.
Firefighters brought the fire under control around 3pm and fully extinguished it by around 4:45pm.
At least six workers, including a child, were killed in the incident, while two others sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at a hospital.
