Toll collection from the Jamuna Bridge reached nearly Tk2.96 crore over the past 24 hours as vehicle movement increased ahead of Eid travels.
A total of 32,659 vehicles crossed the bridge between 12am Friday and 12am yesterday, Syed Riaz Uddin, executive engineer at the Jamuna Bridge site office confirmed today (24 May).
Of the total, 16,753 vehicles travelled towards northern districts, generating Tk1.49 crore in tolls, said the Bridges authorities.
Meanwhile, 15,896 vehicles heading towards Dhaka contributed Tk1.47 crore.
Riaz Uddin said that from today, vehicles are being managed through 18 toll booths, with nine on each side of the bridge, to ease Eid traffic.
He added that two separate booths have been designated for motorcycles and efforts are underway to ensure uninterrupted toll collection.
